Phil Laak has claimed 18th place at the English Poker Open and received £6,800 for his efforts.
The Open had a £3,500 buy in and was held at Mayfair’s Palm Beach Casino in London. Almost 200 players took part with the Unabomber able to go very deep into the tournament and at least double up on his initial buy in.
Regardless, he would have been hoping to win the entire event and the £220,000 prize for 1st.
Other big names to take part in the event include WSOPE winner and PokerStars prodigy Annette Obrestad as well as James Akenhead who has made the final table of both the WSOP and the WSOPE Main Events.
Representing Britain in this event is Neil Channing and the Hendon Mob’s Joe Beevers.
Liv Boeree, who won the EPT San Remo tournament, also played in the tournament. She finished in 12th place, agonizingly short of the final table.
Fabian Quoss, a young German player, would go on to take down the prize. Quoss is an experienced player who has also recorded a runner-up finish at the WSOP $5,000 No Limit Hold’em event in 2009 and has made a WPT final table.
Phil Laak’s girlfriend Jennifer Tilly also took part in the event. The pair has been in London playing the slew of poker events that are scheduled around this time. They started with the World Poker Tour London event, then the PartyPoker World Open, followed by the EPO.
They plan to play in the WSOPE which will be getting underway tomorrow.
